What Are Wharton’s Jellytic Allografts?
Wharton’s jellytic allografts are more commonly known as Wharton’s jelly allografts or umbilical cord-derived allografts.
Wharton’s jelly is a key connective tissue in the umbilical cord. It is made of different types of hyaluronic acid, and its job is to protect the delicate blood vessels within the umbilical cord. It is also a rich source of stem cells and growth factors. It is harvested after a mother gives birth and does not affect either her experience or that of her baby.
To perform a Wharton’s jelly allograft, we use donated tissue and inject it at the site of damaged tissue. There, it can provide cushioning and lubrication in the affected area. And thanks to the stem cells, it also has regenerative potential; it can instigate a healing process that may lead to long-term results.
What Can Wharton’s Jelly Allografts Treat?
Wharton’s jelly allografts have the potential to treat a range of orthopedic conditions, including:

What to Expect from the Wharton’s Jelly Allograft Process
To get started, we will conduct a thorough pre-treatment consultation. We will learn about your medical history and perform an examination so we know whether Wharton’s jelly is a good fit for your situation.
If you choose to move forward with the treatment, we may use local anesthesia at the injection site to make you more comfortable. Then, we will use ultrasound guidance to place the jelly exactly where it needs to go. After a brief observation period, you can head home. We will provide post-treatment instructions; you may need to abstain from anti-inflammatory medications for a time and avoid strenuous activity with the treated area of your body.
Because this is a regenerative treatment, it may take a bit of time to produce results. Many patients notice an improvement in their symptoms within 2 – 4 weeks, though optimal results may take 3 – 6 months. Some patients need multiple appointments to achieve the best possible results.
